FTC Blogger Disclosure Guidelines
Our Latina Mom Bloggers team attended the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration at the Magic Kingdom in Orlando earlier this year. It was a wonderful experience that brought together moms and families from all over the country engaged in blogging and social media. This year the celebration featured a great line-up of speakers that covered a variety of topics not specific to social media but to engage and help attendees further their professional development. Topics covered ranged from helping bloggers continue to develop their passion to simply not being afraid to create an authentic connection with your readers that will help broaden your reach and audience loyalty.
The topic of clear disclosure with blog readers and to follow the latest FTC Guidelines for bloggers was front and center at the conference. That is appreciated among attendees as while you’re invited to attend an engaging conference, it should be clear to your audience from your first tweet whether you’re being sponsored and disclosure needs to be communicated.
Earlier this year our Latina Mom Bloggers team presented a panel discussion specifically to cover all that bloggers (and brands) should be disclosing to their audiences – The Brands & Bloggers Guide to the New FTC Disclosure Guidelines. The disccusion followed a “best practices” approach and was moderated by LMB Partner & Co-Founder Cristy Clavijo-Kish featuring panelists Stephen Chavez, President of the national Hispanic Public Relations Association and Stacey Ferguson, Chief Curator of the Be Blogaliicious community and conferences and a practicing technology, advertising and consumer protection attorney.
