How did you start blogging? I started blogging in 2009 as a way to keep out-of-state family and friends in my and my son’s lives. It’s an amazing feeling when someone other than family is reading your blog, and leaves a comment about how the “story” that you’re telling has helped or made another person feel as though they aren’t alone.

What do you believe helps to differentiate your blog from others? I often get asked what my “niche” is, and I honestly don’t feel that I fit into one. I write about things that I love, my family, my life, things that have molded me and my family into who we are and sometimes I am lucky enough to share some amazing product reviews.

Tell us about your audience and what kind of content and information they are looking for. I recently took a poll to see what my readers wanted to see more or less of, and I was pleasantly surprised to see that a lot of men took the survey. So I would say that my readers are a mix of women in the mid 20s to 50s as well as men in their 30s and 40s. It’s absolutely humbling to see so many ages, ethnicities and sexes reading what I have to share.

How do brands work with you to reach your audience? At first I didn’t see how brands were able to connect with their audience through a blog. It wasn’t until I did my first review, and realized how much I loved that product. I wanted to share my positive experience with other parents who could potentially benefit from the information that I provided. I believe that brands sometimes see how my family and  I live our daily lives, and reach out to me because they feel that their product would be a good fit for our busy lives. I am completely flattered when a company/brand reaches out to me to review their product.

Do you ever refuse to review products that you don’t use or believe in? Yes, and no. Sometimes I haven’t tried the product that I’m being asked to review, but agree to review it because I think it will be amazing for my family. Unfortunately some products are not what I expected. While I may need to email the brand or agency with negative feedback, or provide a not so great review I am happy knowing that my honest feedback may help someone else who may be curious about the product. I also will never agree to review a product that doesn’t fit my lifestyle. For instance, my son is older so I would never agree to review a car seat or baby products.

Do you support any particular non-profit organization or cause through your blog? In my life I have experienced some amazing and not so amazing things that have impacted my family. It is because of these experiences I want to help to raise awareness for causes that may not often receive the attention that I feel that they should. There are three organizations which I support including: The March of Dimes, Survival Mode Parent and Relay for Life.

My son is a preemie. He was born at 28 weeks, and weighed 2 pounds, 4.5 ounces. When I first started searching for information about preemies there wean’t a lot of information available. Then I came across the March of Dimes, which is a great organization whose mission is to help moms have full-term pregnancies and research the problems that threaten the health of babies. We host walks, runs and fundraisers in my town to help.

I also love Survival Mode Parent, a website that helps to match people who need help while their child is in the hospital to volunteers who are willing to provide that help. The volunteers can do a variety of different things to help out these parents, from running errands, or helping with groceries and basic needs. It’s unfathomable how much help you need when your child is in the hospital, so it’s great to have these amazing volunteers to help with the basics.

Another organization that I love to support is Relay for Life. Having been diagnosed with cancer made me want to help those who are also going through it by helping to provide support and encouragement.

I like to remind people that while you may not be personally impacted, you can still reach out to help. Sometimes someone just needs to know that they’re not alone.

What advice do you have for a Latina who is thinking about starting a blog but may now know where to begin?  I am no expert in starting a blog, but I do have some advice. Before you start, make sure that this is something that you really want to do. Talk to your family and ask them if this is something that could work for you and for them. Make sure that you’re in it, not just do it for a week, disappear for a few months and then come back and expect to see a successful blog. Do your research. There are a lot of sites out there that can help you to start a blog.

Once you’ve decided that it’s something for you and your family, then you should start by selecting a name for your blog,
blogging platform, “niche” (don’t start a DIY blog if you aren’t going to any DIY projects often, don’t start a cooking blog if you’re only going to share a recipe once a month) and how much time and money you’re willing to invest. My most important advice for starting a blog is to write about what makes you happy. You don’t want to have a blog that you’re not happy to go to every day! If you’re consistent and write about what you love, the rest will follow.

What can you tell them about maintaining a balance between home and work? This is always difficult for anyone with a blog whether you’ve been doing it for a long time or are just starting out. You have to make sure that you’re not over extending yourself with your blog. Don’t make a commitment that is going to pit your family against your blog. Try to keep a schedule about when you’ll blog, maybe when the family is asleep, kids are at school, etc. as not to interfere with your home life. Keep a blogging calendar. This calendar should contain when posts are due, when you published a post, when reviews are due etc. This helps me to not only see what I have done, have to do but also makes me be accountable because it is “on the schedule”. Also another thing that helps is to write some of my posts in advance and have them pre-scheduled. Blogging doesn’t have to be hard or become a hardship on you or your family but it can be if your don’t carve out time for each.

If you weren’t a full-time blogger, what other field could you see yourself working in? I’m actually a full-time student, work a part-time job, keep busy as a single mom, and blog full-time, and I just started another part-time job. So I would say that if I wasn’t blogging I would be going to school and working.

Tell us about three people that you admire and why. There are three people that I admire including: my mom, my dad and my grandma.

My mom: She is such a great mom, wife, nana, sister and best friend. No matter what, my mom is always there for my siblings and I as well as her three grandchildren. She is open, kind, forgiving and beautiful inside and out.

My dad: He is hardworking, a great dad, loving husband, papa, brother and best friend. He too is always there to support me and my siblings and his grandchildren. Her is strong, caring and the best dad and daughter/grandson could ask for.

My grandma: She was such a strong woman who stood up for what she believed in no matter how controversial. She was beautiful inside and out. She never spoke bad/ill about anyone and always had a kind word for everyone. She never drove a car and still somehow managed to see the world. She is missed everyday!

What is your favorite life or business quote? I have a couple of these. First, “Treat others the way that you want to be treated”. It pains me to see people treat others badly. And secondly, “Don’t sweat the small stuff, because it’s all small stuff”. This is so true, why sweat the stuff that isn’t important and that you can’t change.

Can you share what is the most important business habit that you have? To be honest, polite, quick to respond, and just be myself!

What is the most important lesson about blogging you learned this year? That I don’t always have to write about what I think everyone else wants to read, that I can write about things that I want to tell people about my life, my family etc.

(“Agency”), Latina Moms Media, LLC (“Administrator”), Inc. or of any parent, subsidiary, affiliate, advertising, promotion or distribution agency or independent contractor of such entity; b) individuals engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials for this Sweepstakes; and c) persons who are immediate family members (defined as spouse, IRS dependent or biological or step- mother, father, sister, brother, daughter, or son and each of their respective spouses) of any person in any of the preceding categories, regardless of where they live, and/or individuals who reside in the same household, whether related or not, as any person in any of the preceding categories. The transfer of any Prize from an ineligible to an eligible person is strictly prohibited.

You are not authorized to participate in the Sweepstakes if you do not meet the eligibility requirements listed above.

HOW TO ENTER
The Twitter Party Sweepstakes begins at 9:00 p.m. EST on May 2, 2013 and ends at 10:00 p.m. EST on May 8, 2013 (“Sweepstakes Period”). There is one (1) method of entry. To enter, you must visit www.LatinaMomBloggers.com (the “Sweepstakes Website”) during the Sweepstakes Period, follow the directions to RSVP on the Sweepstakes Website, then log on to Twitter during the Sweepstakes Period, follow the @NissanEspanol handle, and Tweet your answer to one of the prize questions correctly using the hashtag #NissanSentra. Limit one (1) entry per person/Twitter account holder for the Sweepstakes. If an Entrant is found to be entering with more than one Twitter handle, all entries submitted by such Entrant will be void. Please note: You must have a valid Twitter account and agree to the Twitter Terms of Use and the Twitter Privacy Policy in order to eligible to enter. Registration on Twitter must be completed before an entry may be submitted. Twitter membership is free. The Twitter platform will be the official time clock for the Sweepstakes.

WINNER SELECTION
RANDOM DRAWING AND WINNER NOTIFICATION: Four (4) potential winners will be selected randomly in a drawing from all eligible submissions on May 8, 2013 from 9 – 10:00 p.m. EST. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
NOTIFICATION: Potential winners will notified on Twitter after each Prize Question. Potential winners will be required to sign and return, where legal, an Affidavit of Eligibility within seven (7) days of prize notification. Verified winners will be asked to confirm receipt of their Prize to Administrator via a form sent to the winner during the Twitter Party. Failure to complete the form within the Sweepstakes Period will result in disqualification and a new winner will be drawn.
If a potential winner cannot be contacted during the Twitter Party, does not meet the eligibility requirements and/or is not in compliance with these Official Rules, the potential winner will be disqualified and, at Sponsor’s discretion, an alternate winner selected in a random drawing from among all of the remaining eligible submissions. Sponsor reserves the right to not award a Prize in the event that an insufficient number of eligible submissions are received.

PRIZES (4) (each a “Prize”):
• (2) $50 Gas Cards. Approximate retail value (“ARV”): $50 each.
• (2) $200 Visa Gift Cards Approximate retail value (“ARV”): $200 each.

Total ARV of all Prizes: $500. Prizes are awarded “as is” with no warranty or guarantee, either express or implied. Sponsor will not replace any lost, mutilated or stolen gift cards. Winners may not substitute, assign or transfer a Prize or redeem a Prize for cash, but Sponsor reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to substitute a Prize with one of comparable or greater value. Winners agree to comply with all applicable gift card terms, restrictions and regulations in connection with the Prize. The winner is solely responsible for all other costs and expenses. ALL FEDERAL, STATE AND LOCAL TAXES ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECEIPT OR USE OF ANY PRIZE ARE SOLELY THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE WINNER. No substitution or cash equivalent of Prizes is permitted. Sponsor in its sole discretion reserves the right to substitute any Prize with another of equal or greater value.

CONDITIONS
(a) Entries generated by a script, macro or other mechanical or automated means are ineligible and will be disqualified. All submissions become the sole and exclusive property of Sponsor. Submissions will not be returned and receipt of submissions will not be acknowledged. Proof of submission of will not be deemed to be proof of receipt.
(b) Sponsor and its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, advertising and promotional agencies, and each of their respective parent corporations, affiliates, subsidiaries, officers, directors, employees, representatives and agents and each of their respective affiliates, representatives and employees (collectively, the “Sweepstakes Entities”) shall have no responsibility for any damage to an entrant’s computer or telephone system that is directly or indirectly caused by accessing the Sweepstakes Website or otherwise participating in the Sweepstakes, or for any computer system, phone line, hardware, software or program malfunctions, or other errors, failures, dropped or delayed computer transmissions or network connections that are human or technical in nature. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, Sweepstakes Entities are not responsible for incomplete, misdirected, late, lost, damaged, or stolen entries, which will be disqualified; or for lost, interrupted, inaccessible or unavailable networks, servers, satellites, Internet Service Providers, Sweepstakes Websites or other connections; or for mis-communications, failed, jumbled, scrambled, delayed, or misdirected computer, telephone or cable transmissions; or for any technical or programming malfunctions, failures, or difficulties, printing errors, clerical, typographical or other error in the offering or announcement of any prize or in any prize notification documents, or other errors of any kind or nature; or for the incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry or other information, or the failure to capture or the loss of any information. Sweepstakes Entities are not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by Sweepstakes Website users, tampering or hacking, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Sweepstakes and assume no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to the Sweepstakes Website.
c. Internet entry must be made by the Entrant, only at the Sweepstakes Website. Any use of robotic, automatic, macro, programmed or third party entry methods will void all such entries by such methods, and disqualify any entrant using such methods.
d. In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, an entry will be deemed submitted by the authorized account holder of the email account from which it was sent. The authorized account holder shall be the natural person to whom the applicable has been assigned by the Internet access provider, service provider, or other online organization responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the submitted email address. A potential Winner may be requested to provide the Sponsor with proof that the potential Winner is the authorized account holder of the email address associated with the winning entry. If a dispute cannot be resolved to Sponsor’s satisfaction, the affected entry will be deemed ineligible.
e. Disqualification. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any entrant who is found to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Sweepstakes; to be acting in violation of these Official Rules; or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Sweepstakes, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law.
f. Right to terminate or modify Sweepstakes. Sponsor reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to terminate the Sweepstakes, in whole or in part, or modify or suspend the Sweepstakes for any reason including, but not limited to, if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the Sweepstakes is technically impaired or corrupted or that fraud or technical problems, failures or malfunctions have destroyed or severely undermined the integrity and/or feasibility of the Sweepstakes. In the event Sponsor is prevented from continuing with the Sweepstakes as contemplated herein or by any event beyond its control, including but not limited to fire, flood, natural or manmade epidemic of health of other means, earthquake, explosion, labor dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, satellite or equipment failure, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war (declared or undeclared) or any federal state or local government law, order, or regulation, public health crisis, order of any court or jurisdiction, or other cause not reasonably within Sponsor’s control (each a “Force Majeure” event or occurrence), then subject to any governmental approval which may be required, Sponsor shall have the right to modify, suspend, or terminate the Sweepstakes.
g. Early termination of Sweepstakes. If the Sweepstakes is terminated, in whole or in part, before the designated end date, Sponsor reserves the right to select winner in a random drawing from all eligible, non-suspect entries received as of the date of the event giving rise to the termination.
h. These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in a written document issued in accordance with law by a duly authorized representative of Sponsor. Sponsor reserves the right to correct clerical or typographical errors in promotional materials. The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein.
i. ANY PERSON ATTEMPTING TO DEFRAUD OR IN ANY WAY TAMPER WITH OR DELIBERATELY DAMAGE ANY SWEEPSTAKES WEBSITE OR UNDERMINE THE CONTENT OR LEGITIMATE OPERATION OF THE SWEEPSTAKES IS A VIOLATION OF CRIMINAL AND CIVIL LAWS AND SHOULD SUCH AN ATTEMPT BE MADE, SPONSOR WILL DISQUALIFY SUCH PERSON, AND SPONSOR RESERVES THE RIGHT TO SEEK DAMAGES (INCLUDING ATTORNEYS’ FEES) AND OTHER REMEDIES FROM ANY SUCH PERSON TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW.
INDEMNIFICATION AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY
BY ENTERING THE SWEEPSTAKES, EACH ENTRANT AGREES TO INDEMNIFY, RELEASE AND HOLD HARMLESS THE SWEEPSTAKES ENTITIES FROM ANY LIABILITY, DAMAGES, LOSSES OR INJURY RESULTING IN WHOLE OR IN PART, DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY, FROM THAT ENTRANT’S PARTICIPATION IN THE SWEEPSTAKES AND THE ACCEPTANCE, USE OR MISUSE OF ANY PRIZE THAT MAY BE WON. THE SWEEPSTAKES ENTITIES DO NOT MAKE ANY WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO THE CONDITION, FITNESS OR MERCHANTABILITY OF THE PRIZE. THE SWEEPSTAKES ENTITIES DISCLAIM ANY LIABILITY FOR DAMAGE TO ANY COMPUTER SYSTEM RESULTING FROM ACCESS TO OR THE DOWNLOAD OF INFORMATION OR MATERIALS CONNECTED WITH THE SWEEPSTAKES.
AS A CONDITION OF ENTERING THE SWEEPSTAKES, ENTRANT AGREES THAT: (I) UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL ENTRANT BE PERMITTED TO OBTAIN AWARDS FOR, AND ENTRANT HEREBY WAIVES ALL RIGHTS TO CLAIM, PUNITIVE, INCIDENTAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES, OTHER THAN FOR OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES; (II) ALL CAUSES OF ACTION ARISING OUT OF OR CONNECTED WITH THIS SWEEPSTAKES, OR ANY PRIZE AWARDED, SHALL BE RESOLVED INDIVIDUALLY — WITHOUT RESORT TO ANY FORM OF CLASS ACTION — BY BINDING ARBITRATION (BY A SINGLE NEUTRAL ARBITRATOR SELECTED BY SPONSOR IN ITS SOLE AND ABSOLUTE DISCRETION) IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE RULES OF THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION; AND (III) ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, JUDGMENTS AND AWARDS SHALL BE LIMITED TO ACTUAL OUT-OF-POCKET COSTS INCURRED, BUT IN NO EVENT SHALL SUCH CLAIMS, JUDGMENTS OR AWARDS INCLUDE ATTORNEYS’ FEES. By participating, each entrant grants Sponsor permission (which shall be confirmed in writing upon the request of Sponsor) for Sweepstakes Entities to use entrant’s name, photograph, likeness, voice, biographical information, statements and address (city and state) for advertising, trade, commercial and/or publicity purposes worldwide in all forms of media now known or hereafter developed, including on the internet, at any time or times, in perpetuity, without further compensation (except where prohibited by law) and without notification, review or approval or further authorization, except where prohibited by law.
